Volunteers

We sincerely understand and value the gift of time, dedication and often items that our volunteer team bring to such a large event. Whether you are leading a realm, stepping into a role with our Board of Directors or jumping in to make sure they privies have TP and the other volunteers have food, your role is genuinely appreciated.

Each of our leaders have worked as volunteers at one or more faires. We are not asking you to consider doing anything we are not still willing to do now and at almost all times, you will see that our leadership contributes and uplifts from an attitude of servant leadership - if you see otherwise, please come speak with us!   We never want you to feel unappreciated. That said, we do some hard work around here and each have a gift they're able to share.

Each team listed below will have different duties. We also understand that each person has limitations and we want to work within those as much as possible while still encouraging each person to grow. Let us help you find where you can thrive within our group so you can have a "job well done" feeling in the end.

PLEASE NOTE: Specific job expectations are still being developed so please reach out when you see one you're interested in. When they are complete, we will have a PDF of each area listed to view.

Possible Team Roles:

Realm Leadership

We Dream and We Herd Cats... In Doublets About: Five Realms currently exist (Seelie & Unseelie Fae, Robin Hood, Viking and the 1890's circus) Each of these need a single dedicated leader. This person is responsible for assisting with the merchants and performers, volunteers and partial design of their "realm" or area of the event. A role like this does expect effort prior to, at the event and following the event as well. Leadership skills, communication, follow-through and knowledge of the subject matter are all vital to the success of each team. Being able to communicate both what needs to be done and how to do it is vital. Remembering that this is a dedicated position but that it is also intended to be a great place to be creative and grow as well is paramount. If you may be interested in one of these rolls, please reach out to us to talk about it.

Realm Assistance

~The Hidden Hand of the Realm~ About: Possibly interested? Check out the about in the Realm Leadership too. But this is a support roll for the Real Leader. It is very similar but also holds the wieght of needing to be able to work with the Realm Leader enough that if something should happen to him/her, you can jump in and more-or-less seamlessly, take up the leadership mantel for the Realm

The Gilded Quill: Marketing & Sponsorships

Inviting the Kingdom into the Legends! About: This team comprises those who write articles, do radio ad scheduling, speak at events for us, write press releases, work the social media angles and even those who just work to get the event added to community boards and group pages. The time expectations all depend on what aspects you are predominantly focused on. This is a VITAL part of our success and the Executive Directors will provide an overview of information and phrases that will help get you on the way to accomplishment!

Hearthfire Host: Volunteer & Vendor Support Team

*A Warm Hearth along the Journey* About: Do you love to do some great behind-the-scenes work to help keep a team thriving!? Our Hearthfire Host team is the one that makes sure the snack tables and water jugs are full for the volunteers and merchants. They work in our hospitality tent and sometimes "babysit" booths as part of our Feast-On-Foot program. Some of this work will be done ahead of time with washing feastware, prepping snacks (like cutting the cheese ahead of time... lol). Most of the work will happen the weekend of the event.

Wisdom's Hollow: First Aid, Information, Lost & Found Team

Answers for Wayward Travelers About: This is one of the most vital small teams of the event. Manning the hollow means we have someone to pass out bandages, call 911 if something significant happens, reunites children and parents, helps people find their way and also hosts the security team between rounds.

The Toll Trolls: Gatehouse Support Team

Pay the Toll, Make the Stroll! About: How can someone pay the toll if there isn't a troll!? We love the idea of a gate crew how enjoys themselves, has fun getting the people excited for what they're about to see and experience. These people MUST be good with money and technology for the most part. No theft in their background check is allowed in order to participate.

The Waykeepers: Parking Team

There and Back Again: A Parking Tale About: The VERY FIRST smiling face that a person will see at faire is that of the parking teams'. We want to make sure parking is as low-stress as possible. This is one of the few aspects of faire that will allow for un-garbed staffing (although garb/costumes are highly encouraged)

Bravehearts: Security Team

Guardian Hearts, Strong Shields! About: This team assists in ensuring that the patrons and people of faire all feel more secure. This is a position that will need to attend a couple of meetings prior to the event regarding de-escalation and what the faire expects of you in different situations. This is NOT a role for a hot-headed individual, a person with any record of theft or violence in their background check and who are willing and able to make hard calls.

Emberstone: Setup & Teardown Leads

~ From Fields to Fantasy ~ About: Are you a craftsman, an engineer, a mechanic, person who loves to conceptualize and create? We need people who will actily participate in developing the physical items of the faire, to assist in leading different portions of set up and who are willing to learn how various items are assembled to ensure safety. Set up and Tear down are a very importatant role and need to be able to work with the other Realm leaders to help merge and expand on one another's ideas for each land.

Pox Patrol: Sanitation Sanity Team

From Mess to Majesty! About: No one wants to mess with poop - so we just asked you to zip tie gross privies shut until the privy pump comes back. But in all serisouness, we are seeking people who are willing to check that there's still "Butt Napkins" in the privies, Towels of Paper beside the handwash stations, empty the full garbage cans a few times a day and do it at least slightly within character - make it fun! Complain about the tannery using YOUR garbage can and how you hate the smell of urine! Learning cute little quips like this could make your role more interesting and fun for the guests as well.

Treasure Chest: Garb Building

By Needle and Loom, the Ballads Bloom About: What a seriously amazing chance to expand skills, be creative and truly dress the faire for success. This team will focus on developing/sewing clothing articles and accessories for the volunteers who do not, yet, have their garb. Some items to be sewn will be mundane pants and cloaks but you will find what item you love the most that you can thrive in doing well at and we can move forward from there! Most of the garb you create will become part of the Treasure Chest for volunteers to borrow from. Some may be able to be purchased in the future.

What's Next?

Volunteering can be a lot of fun and a great way to meet new people! For a lot of information, please read through the FAQ's for the Volunteers.

Joining the mailing list will give you periodic information updates and upcoming events. We have no intention of bombarding your email (because we loathe that too...).

The application is not a contract. It is just a "hey, lets seriously look into this and see where we fit best."  It's helps us to place you somewhere you will thrive and lets us know where you're at. Some people will come in with years of experiences at renaissance faires where others will have none but love marketing or stage design. There's a lot to do and so many ways to help.

We are a Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization so we are able to take tax deductible contributions AND we are able to offer community service hours for working with us for government, school and corporate projects!
